NAAM’s community mission is to contribute to the education and awareness of our cultural heritage by lending objects. For this reason, NAAM regularly lends objects to museums, training institutes and private individuals for the purpose of research, exhibition or publication. This is done on the basis of a mutually signed loan contract.
The loan of objects is subject to the conditions and procedures as laid down in the General Terms and Conditions & Procedures for the loan of objects (link to downloadable doc)
The national heritage Depot on the Johan van Walbeeckplein contains most of the national collections that are not exhibited or on loan. The depot contains collections from NAAM and from institutes that have entrusted the management of their valuables to NAAM. The National Heritage Depot includes more than 12,000 museum objects and offers 200 square meters of storage space within a secure and air-conditioned environment.
The collection manager and her volunteer team work on a daily basis to classify and conserve the objects to preserve our heritage for future generations. The depot is not accessible to the general public but is visible through a glass partition that reaches up to the ceiling. The depot can be visited on special request under the supervision of one of the staff members.
